History of THE HINDU-

The Hindu was Set in Madras on 20 September 1878 as a weekly paper, by which was known then as the Triplicane Six comprising four law students and two teachers:- T. T. Rangacharya, P. V. Rangacharya, D. Kesava Rao Pantulu, and N. Subba Rao Pantulu headed by G. Subramania Iyer (a college teacher from Tanjore district) and M.Veeraraghavacharyar, a lecturer in Pachaiyappa’s College.

Launched to be able to support the effort of Sir T. Muthuswamy Iyer to get a judgeship in the Madras High Court and also to cancel the propaganda carried out from the Anglo-Indian media, The Hindu was among many papers of this period established to protest the policies of the British Raj. Approximately 100 copies of this issue were published at Srinidhi Press, Georgetown on a single rupee and twelve annas of borrowed cash.

The paper was originally printed from Srinidhi Press but afterward Transferred to Scottish Press, then into The Hindu Press, Mylapore. Launched as a weekly paper, the newspaper became a tri-weekly at 1883 and a day every day in 1889.

Just one copy of this paper was priced in annas. The offices moved into leased premises at 100 Mount Road about 3 December 1883. The paper started printing in its own media there, called”The National Press,” that was set on borrowed funds as public subscriptions weren’t forthcoming.

The construction itself became The Hindu’s in 1892, following the Maharaja of Vizianagaram, Pusapati Ananda Gajapati Raju, gave The National Press a loan for the construction and also to execute the required expansion.

The Hindu was originally liberal in its outlook And is currently considered left-leaning. Its editorial stances have made it the nicknamethe’Maha Vishnu of Mount Road’. “In the brand new speech, 100 Mount Road, that was to stay The Hindu’s house till 1939, there issued a quarto-size newspaper with a front-page filled with ads –a practice which came to an end just in 1958 as it followed the lead of its idol, the pre-Thomson Times [London]–along with three rear pages too in the ceremony of this advertiser.

In between, there were more perspectives than news” After 1887, once the yearly session of Indian National Congress was held in Madras, the newspaper’s coverage of national information improved appreciably, and contributed to the paper getting a day every day beginning 1 April 1889.

Iyer stopped the newspaper and Veeraraghavachariar Began to decline from the 1900s and therefore did its flow, which had been down to 800 Copies if the sole proprietor chose to sell out. The buyer was The Hindu’s Legal Adviser in 1895, S.Kasturi Ranga Iyengar, a politically ambitious attorney who had migrated out of a Kumbakonam village To clinic in Coimbatore.
